Summer 2001

From the Pastor

Welcome to all our readers, both old and new. I trust you are keeping well, and rejoicing in the blessing and salvation of God. For those who get our magazine at the fellowship, on the first Sunday in July, you will know that tomorrow (2nd July) we embark on our summer outreach to the boys and girls of the area. The Holiday Bible Club has arrived once again. Please pray for John McCartney and his capable team of helpers as they embark on this mammoth task. We do not ask that you pray that the boys win the quiz, or that we have a good weeks fun, but that the Lord’s presence may be felt, and that many boys and girls are convicted by the message of the Gospel.

My earliest recollections of the summer, is of hot sunny days off school, playing outside, and my mother bringing out something nice! Maybe an ice-lolly, or a bowl of strawberries and ice-cream. They never helped the waistline, but somehow in those far-off days, such things as waistlines didn’t seem to matter. They where a treat along the way.

This rambling does have a point other that wild nostalgia!

Part of my work as a Pastor, is to visit the congregation over which I have responsibility as an elder. And I believe that each visit, as far as possible, ought to be like a bowl of strawberries and ice-cream....Something sweet for the bitter journey of life. It is not an opportunity for gossip, or to probe for information, or to attempt character assassinations!!

In Exodus 15:23, we read of the Children of Israel coming to a place called Marah. The word Marah means ‘Bitter,’ and they found that, true to its name the water there was so harsh, that they were unpalatable for the weary thirsty travellers.

As we travel life’s pathway together, we find our own ‘Marah’ bitter places, bitter experiences to say nothing of bitter people, and the only way of not being affected by that which is bitter, is to find something, which is in constrast very sweet. At the start of this magazine, and at the start of another summer, let me remind you of some of the sweet things that we have to ease the bitter wilderness journey of life.

1. SWEET SAVIOUR Paul, when writing in 2Cor 2 : 15 speaks of the ‘sweet savor of Christ.’ The Lord Jesus and the glorious Gospel, are like a sweet aroma to those of us who believe. The word ‘savor’ has the idea of the smell of sweet perfume. When Christ enters into our lives, we possess a sweetness that we did not have before. Spend a little time thinking and meditating on the sweetness of Christ, in His forgiveness, His faithfulness, His mercy, His grace, His enabling...the list is endless.

2.SWEET SCRIPTURES The Psalmist did not hesitate to tell how sweet the Word of God was to him. In Psalm 19:10 David’s declaration was that it was ‘sweeter than honey and the honeycomb.’ It is the scriptures that provides an insight into the mind and purposes of God, it is the scriptures that brings us comfort when hurting and discouraged, it is the scriptures that promises us help for the present and hope for the future. God’s truth will add sweetness to your life.

3. SWEET SPIRIT It takes a sweet person to be a Comforter. (JOHN 14:16) The word ‘comforter’ suggests at least three things: a friend called in to help a person in trouble or distress....a commander called in to help inspire a discouraged army....or a lawyer called in to plead a case on behalf of someone else. The Holy Spirit is indeed a sweet sweet Spirit. He does draw near to help in trouble and distress, He does inspire us in the spiritual battle, and He does plead our case on our behalf.

4. SWEET SECURITY Read over Romans 8:35-39. What a security is brought to us through the seal of the Holy Spirit. Is it not wonderful to remember, that nothing and no-one can separate from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord? We have Eternal Security because of seven ‘new’ things.

a. Our New Position..We are now placed in Christ (Rom 8:1-4) Notice that Paul does not say there is no fault, no sin, or imperfection.. but rather no condemnation!

b. Our New Guest....We are now indwelt by the Holy Spirit (Rom 8:5-13)

c.Our New Adoption ...We are adopted by the Father into His family (Rom 8:14-17)

d. Our New Expectation ...We expect the full and final redemption of all creation

(Rom 8:18-25)

e. Our New Prayer Helper.. The Holy Spirit who already lives in us, and is a witness to us now also prays for us. (Rom 8:26&27)

f. Our New Knowledge. (Rom 8:28 “All things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to His purpose).

g. Our New Goal...To be confirmed to the image of His Son. (Rom 8:29-39).

5. SWEET SAINTS When Paul is writing to the saints in Ephesus (Eph 4:32) “And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven you.” We are here for each other, not to put each other right, or to change everybody to our point of view, but to make the journey homeward sweeter!!

Endeavour to bring some sweetness into somebody’s life today.

Enjoy the rest of the rest of the magazine

My reading the other night was Psalm 103: I love this Psalm as I find the book of Psalm’s one of my favourites. It was verses 3-6 and these words stood out to me: forgiveth, healeth, redeemeth, crowneth, satisfieth and executeth. These words say so much on their own of what the Lord does for each of us.

THE SEATED SAVIOUR

The Bible teaches us all about a Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ, who walks around the hills of Galilee with His disciples, preaching and teaching. He is a Saviour who heals the sick and raises the dead. Today we have a Risen Saviour, the one who paid the supreme price for each one of us by dying on the cross. BUT what about the SEATED SAVIOUR.

Scripture tells us about a 12 year old child called Jesus who had been brought up to Jerusalem at the time of the Passover. Luke 2:46 informs us about his parents finding him sitting in the temple listening to the teachers and asking questions. And His reason for being there was clear and simple, “Wist ye not that I must be about my Fathers business.” To those who know not the simple message it is, that Jesus was there on business for GOD, His heavenly Father.

We find a 2nd instance of this Seated Saviour in Luke 4:20. Jesus had just returned from the desert where He had been tempted by the devil and on His return to Galilee, stories about Him had spread throughout the area. He began teaching in the Synagogues and all the gifts and graces of the Spirit were upon Him. He entered a synagogue on the Sabbath day and opened up the Scriptures and after He had read from them He Sat Down.

The 3rd place we see our Seated Saviour is after He had got aboard a little ship which belonged to Simon and the ship had been pushed out from the shore a little. He sat down and started preaching to the people. We read about this in Luke 5:3.

In the 4th instance which we read about in Luke 7:36, we see Jesus Sitting down to eat in the home of a Pharisee. A woman who was a sinner came and with the tears of her eyes washed the feet of Jesus before covering His feet with ointment. (Have you ever thought of the cost of this ointment. What have you as an individual done for your Saviour. Have you come and found Him like the sinner woman). She was forgiven by Jesus and so can you.

In the 5th place we read in Luke 14:1 about Jesus once more Sitting down with another Pharisee on a Sabbath day. And here we see during this time that He healed a man with dropsy.

In Luke 22:14 we find Jesus in Jerusalem in the Upper Room as it was almost time for the Feast of Unleaven Bread, called the Passover. And as the hour was come He sat down and the 12 Apostles with Him. The Lord’s supper took place with Jesus sharing and blessing the wine and the bread.

On the road to Emmaus, we see some of the disciples speak to our Risen Saviour although they knew Him not, and in verse 30 of Luke 24 we see after inviting this stranger back to their home He sat down to eat. Only after giving thanks and broke bread, handing it to the disciples did they open up their eyes and beheld the glory of the Risen Saviour.

The final place to see the seated Saviour is found in Hebrews 10:12 “But this Man, after he had offered one sacrifice for sinners for ever, sat down on the right hand of God.”

Have you ever sat down with Him?

Have you ever spoken to Him?

Have you ever confessed your sins to Him and repented?

If not, why not?

Do it today or fear the unknown.

Fail to open your eyes and you might just end up in the most dreaded of places called Hell.

Today He is waiting, the time is nearly at hand for His second coming to this sin cursed world, to take those who are washed in the blood and cleansed for ever of sin, back to the mansions He has prepared for us, to reign with Him the Seated Saviour for evermore.

The White - Robed Multitude

A countless host appears in sight, arrayed in robes of finest white

Around the throne they stand, released from every earthly care.

Bright crowns of gold the conquerors wear and palms are in their hands.

Who are these souls and whence came they.

Once they were clad in mortal clay, and sojourned here below.

These are the spirits bright and pure, who did unto the end endure.

And none but Jesus knew.

Despised rejected and oppressed, earth could afford their souls no rest.

They groaned and wept and cried, they suffered griefs and pains and woes.

While earth and hell did them oppose, then laid them down and died.

Soon as they dropped this mortal clod their ransomed spirits rose to God.

Washed in their Saviours blood and now they sing His worthy praise.

Through everlasting endless days, their Saviour and their God.

When shall I join this happy band and leave this dark and gloomy land.

To mingle with the blest.

I long to see that face divine, and feel He is forever mine.

While in His arms I rest, my earthly race will soon be run.

My weary pilgrimage be done and I shall pass away.

To be no longer seen below, but I shall to my Saviour go.

And see the Source of day.

Many years ago a poor ill clad and hesitant young man appeared in a pulpit. Apart from one poor man who invited him to his home, no one took any notice of him. Some years after wards when he had become a famous preacher he appeared in the same church. After the service many plied him with invitations to become their guest. He remained silent, till he saw his old friend who had been so kind to him in the days of his poverty. Moving towards him he said that he would dearly love to become his guest for the second time. Let us take the matter to heart. ‘I was a stranger and ye took me in.’

Ladies Fellowship

This year we finished our seasons work with a visit from Doreen Lewis from BEE. Doreen came and spoke of the womens work in Romania, Vietnam and many other countries where persecution is rife and having to meet in secret is a way of life. As she spoke of these Christians it challenged many of our own hearts about our commitment and ‘stickability.’ How many of us would be prepared to show the faith that many of these Christian ladies practice day by day? How many of us can be bothered even coming to church if its not a Sunday? Much food for thought was provided and afterwards a lovely time of fellowship was had by all over a cup of tea.

Our ladies outing took place this year on Saturday 28th April. We travelled to Enniskillen and after the usual shopping expedition we had a lovely meal at the Killyhevlin Hotel before making the journey back home again. Everyone enjoyed the day out and if you would like to come with us next year then please come along. We would love to have you join us and it is a great way to get to know the ladies in the fellowship.

Our prayer meetings continue throughout the summer months and it has been very encouraging to see the meetings fairly well attended. At present we have many ladies who are unwell and need our prayers so why not come along and intercede for many of these ladies who would love to be able to attend the ladies prayer meeting. We need faithful prayer warriors and we always have room for new faces at the prayer meeting. We look forward to seeing you there.

Please remember to pray for us as we plan our meetings for September 01 - April 02. We look forward D.V. to renewing fellowship with all our ladies in September - the 2nd Wednesday of each month. So if you are free we would love to see you at the ladies fellowship.

The Hands Of Jesus

He takes the ruins of a marred broken life

In hands that were nailed to a cross,

And out of the ashes of shame and remorse

Creates a life that is new.

He takes the earth of a vessel that’s spoiled

In hands that were outstretched to care,

And out of the dirt of broken earthware

Produces a vessel of worth.

“God builds beautiful creations from ruins.”

A Personal Word Of Testimony

I came from a non Christian background, although I was sent to Sunday School and Boy’s Brigade. I never thought about salvation or Jesus; I was quite rebellious and a very unhappy person.

My health was poor and I was hospitalized many times in my adult life; suffering from Arthritis, Asthma and other serious problems. One time I was so desperate and unhappy, I took a large overdose and ended up in hospital again; with no desire to live, I was at the end of myself.

A young nurse said to me that a better person inside was looking out; from that day I started to think about my soul. I knew I was a sinner and needed Jesus Christ. A mission was being held at Antrim Road Mission Hall and I started to attend every night. I was hungry for the gospel of Jesus Christ. On the 24th September 1998 I asked Jesus into my heart. Oh! what a peace I have found and what a great Saviour. He did not only save me but healed me also; I have no pain with the Arthritis and I have no medication to take, at all.

I love the Lord Jesus; and I am so happy He found me forgave my sins and set me free to follow Him. Also many other Christians have helped me and supported me when I was a babe in Christ.

I am so grateful for Jesus, and all His dear ones .

May God bless you all.

Raymond.

O happy day, that fixed my choice,

On Thee my Saviour and my God!

Well may this glowing heart rejoice,

And tell its raptures all abroad.

Happy day, happy day

When Jesus washed my sins away!

He taught me how to watch and pray,

And live rejoicing ev’ry day.

Happy day happy day,

When Jesus washed my sins away!

‘Tis done, the great transaction’s done!

I am my Lords’s and He is mine:

He drew me and I followed on,

Charmed to confess the voice divine.

WHAT MORE CAN YOU ASK

God’s love endureth forever -

What a wonderful thing to know

When the tides of life run against you

And your spirit is downcast and low...

God’s kindness is ever around you

Always ready to freely impart

Strength to your faltering spirit,

Cheer to your lonely heart...

God’s presence is ever beside you,

As near as the reach of your hand,

You have but to tell Him your troubles,

There is nothing He won’t understand...

And knowing God’s love is unfailing,

And His mercy unending and great,

You have but to trust in His promise -

“God comes not too soon nor too late.”

So wait with a heart that is patient

For the goodness of God to prevail -

For never do prayers go unanswered,

And His mercy and love never fail.

PLEASE, PLEASE REMEMBER This is Holiday Bible Club Week

at Ballee Baptist Church.

John McCartney and all his team of

workers would value your prayers for all

the meetings that will take place this week. Remember all the boys and girls that will come to the club this week and pray especially that some boy or girl will except Jesus Christ as their own and personal Saviour.

Daniel Ch. 1. 'The surrender Life'

The twelve chapters of the Book of Daniel divide into two parts. The first six chapters

record for us the personal details of his ministry in the court of the King of Babylon, his separated and dedicated life for God, also that of his three friends, Hananiah; Mishael

and Azariah. The second part of the Book, chapter 7 to 12 is a series of visions which Daniel received at various times and contains for us the most complete of all the revelations in the Scriptures concerning the course of this age and the time of the Tribulation period. No other Book in the Bible has been vindicated by history more than the Book of Daniel. All the predictions and prophecies which it records have up to date been accurately fulfilled in every detail. For this very reason the Book has been attacked by unbelievers and critics from the time of its writing. The enemies of the Bible have tried to put forward explanation about Daniel but it is just a satanic attack and denial upon the whole body of the Scriptures. They refuse to accept that the Bible is God speaking; the expression of the very mind of God; the infallible revelation of His will, His purpose; His program and His plan of salvation - then the Bible becomes alive and real.

Daniel to a large extent is a prophetic book but there are great practical lessons also and my purpose in this little article for our magazine is not to get into those prophecies but to see from the opening Chapter of the Book the tremendous condition of heart of Daniel and his three friends, from the nobility of Israel, in all the circumstances in which they found themselves.

I love to read Daniel Chapter 1 and the only title I can put on this chapter is that of 'The

surrendered Life'. We first see a picture of complete discouragement if looked at from the natural viewpoint; Jerusalem is in ruins, Temple is trodden down; vessels of the house of God taken to the house of false gods and Judah is carried away. God's patience was coming to an end with His people. He had warned them that if they did not change their ways He would punish them. He allowed the armies of Babylon to sweep through the Southern Kingdom of Judah three times. On their first raid they took as captives the finest young men in the kingdom, Sons and Princes of the Royal line. Among the people captured was a young man called Daniel. He had been born at the time when Josiah reigned. Josiah was a good King and tried to turn the people back to God. Daniel learned about God during this King's reign and was greatly influenced by Josiah. In 608BC the godly Josiah met his death in battle and Jehoiakim, an evil King, took the Throne.

Three years later the Babylonians raided the Land then deported some of its finest people.

Daniel was about seventeen years old and he and his friends were taken the five or six hundred miles to Babylon for training in the service King Nebuchadnezzar. They had been chosen by the King Official - Ashpenaz from the King's seed, children in whom was no blemish, but well favoured and skilful in all wisdom, cunning in knowledge and under-standing. Those who had ability and whom they might teach the learning of the Chaldeans. Little did they know that there was a depth to these boys that they knew nothing about - They knew the one and only true God. Bless God there is always a path along which the Child of God may travel even though he may have to go it alone, it is faith's privilege to hand it all over to God and find a path through all the outward circumstances.

The glory had departed from Israel and little seemed left for the children of Judah. The sight of Babylon would have been overwhelming, this heathen city with all its grandeur. In Ps 137 we read what some of them did when they arrived - "By the rivers of Babylon, there we sat down, yea we wept, when we remembered Zion. We hanged our harps upon the willows, How can we sing the Lord's song in a strange land" v1 - 4. Once in Babylon, Daniel and his friends were trained to serve the King. The plan was that by the time they would complete the three years course they would be like the Babylonians. They wanted them to worship their false gods. All the Jewish boys had names given by their parents, names which were very meaningful. Notice two of their names end in 'el' (God) and two in 'iah' (Jehovah) Daniel name meant 'God is my Judge' they changed it to Belteshazzar. Belti was a pagan god. The names of his three friends were also changed. Hananiah (God has been gracious) was changed to Shadrach - Command of Aku, the moon god. Mishael (Who is like God) they changed

to Meshach - Who is like Aku, a Babylonian god. Azariah (God has helped) they changed to Abednego - Servant of the god Hebo. Their names were changed to remove any reference to the true God. Daniel and his three friends lived in an atmosphere of loose morals and low standards even though they were in a palace. The idea was to soften them with luxuries, fine food and drink, they thought, would soon help them to see that it was well worthwhile to be in the King's service. What should the boys do? It would be easiest to do what everyone else did and eat the food. After all, they were in a different country and their parents would never find out. Listen to what these brave lads said when they faced their first temptation, "We will not defile ourselves with the king's meat" The food may have been good but it was prepared according to pagan ceremonies and offered to false gods before being served in the palace. Daniel knew what God's word said, it was unclean, and to eat it would be to disobey God. Daniel went to the King's Official - Melzar and asked to be excused from eating this food. Melzar was sympathetic but said, ' The King has said you are to eat it, I would lose my head if I were to disobey him' . Daniel then asked to be served with pulse (vegetables) and water for ten days and let our countenances be looked at then. After that period of time Daniel and his friends looked fitter and stronger than the others. Melzar took away the portion of their meat and wine and gave them pulse at all meal times. God was pleased with His Children and gave them knowledge and skill in all learning and wisdom. At the end of the three year course the young men were brought before King Nebuchadnezzar who asked them all manner of questions. Daniel and his friends were not only better than the others but ten times better than the King's own men; and Babylon was no second rate place. Throughout this period of time God wonderfully cared for them and they in return were faithful despite being at the centre of an idolatrous pagan Nation.

Chapter one is full of the actions of various people but first of all remember that the actions of God are over all; giving up His people because of their disobedience but always having His faithful servants where He wants them. Daniel is one of the most interesting persons in Scripture, together with Joseph , Job, Noah, he stands among the heroes of the Old Testament. No black marks in this man's life - what a testimony. He was not only incomparable and great on this earth but also great in heaven, for God said twice, "O Daniel, a man greatly beloved" Ch. 10 v11 and v19. No position, no matter how difficult found him without trust in God. He gained a high position in the Land and was influential through the seventy years of his captivity.

Daniel and his friends lived in an atmosphere of loose morals and low standards, is that not a relevant message for to-day, it is very up-to-date. Living for Him in an unbelieving hostile society, but God is able to keep. We ought never to forget that we have a subtle enemy - the devil, who is after us. Watch out, for his plans are well laid. In Phil 4 v 8 the Lord tells us to fill our minds with good thoughts, not evil ones. "whatsoever things are true; honest; just; pure; lovely; good; - think on these things". If the scriptures teaches that a thing is wrong, then it is wrong no matter how many people are doing it.

May Daniel's life and example be a challenge to us. The one who "purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself" His words in Ch11 v32 were a standard in his life, "but the people that do know their God shall be strong and do exploits" or the words of Samuel "them that honour me I will honour"

Dare to be a Daniel;

Dare to stand alone;

Dare to have a purpose firm;

Dare to make it known.

Prayers Are The Stairs To God

Prayers are the stairs,

We must climb every day,

If we would reach God

There is no other way,

For we learn to know God

When we meet Him in prayer.

And ask Him to lighten

Our burden of care -

So start in the morning

And, though the way’s steep,

Climb ever upward

‘Til your eyes close in sleep -

For prayers are the stairs

That lead to the Lord,

And to meet Him in prayer

Is the climber’s reward.

THE FIVE MINUTE HYMN

Romans 8 v 35

“Who shall separate us from the love of Christ”

It’s not many people who could write a hymn in just 5 minutes! It would either be very poor or it would have to be given by divine inspiration! The latter is what George Matheson claimed for his most famous hymn, finished in just 5 minutes. It was written in the midst of severe mental suffering and Matheson claimed it was “dictated to me by some inward voice.”

He was a Scotsman and , by the time George Matheson had completed his Arts degree in Glasgow University in 1861, he was virtually blind, and it seemed almost impossible that he could become a minister of the gospel, But he did, and God used his remarkable preaching and his stirring prayers with which he used to open the services. He had a gift for language. His hymns have a haunting quality.

The 5 minute hymn was “O love that will not let me go,” The third verse reads......

“O joy that seekest me through pain,

I cannot close my heart to Thee;

I trace the rainbow through the rain,

And feel the promise is not vain

That morn shall tearless be.”

There may be rain in your life today - but the rainbow might be just around the corner. it usually is when God is at work.

Is this the right road home, O Lord? the clouds are dark and still,

The stoney path is sharp and hard, each step brings some fresh hill;

I thought the way would brighter grow, and that the sun with warmth would glow

And joyous songs from free hearts flow, is this the right road home?

Yes, Child! this very path I trod, the clouds were dark for me

The stoney path was hard to tread, not sight but faith can see.

That at the end the sun shines bright, forever where there is no night

And glad hearts rest from earth’s fierce fight.

It is the right road home!

MATTHEW 5 : 13, 14 YE ARE SALT, YE ARE LIGHT.

We are building day by day as the moments pass way. Our temple which the world may not see, every victory won by grace will be sure to find a place. In our building for eternity.

Building is always taking place in these charactors of ours. There is a silent work going on continually. Little stones are being put in place day by day from many sources. Influence is all around us for good or ill. We need to beware of the company we keep the friends we make, and the relationships we form. They will make or marr. Life leaves it’s impressions upon us, but God! if we profess faith in Jesus Christ must be given full sway then led by the Spirit we will be spiritually built up from strength to strength. We will desire to read God’s word, meditate upon it, learn it and hide it in our hearts in preparation for eternity. Remember the building of charactor goes on continually, is it all beautiful? are the stones clean - white? Is all pure? Is any deceit their? and pretence? are we sincere? May we be true in word, act, look, tone and feeling toward God and the individual. We are part of another structure, the body of Christ, the Church. Let us fit our place well, doing what we are led to do. God does not ask us to be great, only faithful. We are living stones, may we leave a good impression on those around us. I am aware that God’s word says “ man looketh on the outward appearance but God looks on the heart”. The heart makes the life Prov 4 : 23 says “Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.” The inner fashions the outer to be pure within we must allow Christ to occupy more and more of our lives. I am reminded of the story of a little girl encouraged to let Christ into her heart, she asked won’t He shine through? “Thats how it should be!” Oh the greatness of God, my desires are towards Him, let the beauty of Jesus be seen in me, all thy wonderous compassions and purity, by thy spirit divine fill this spirit of mine, till the beauty of Jesus be seen in me.

Remember We are the Salt, we are the Light.

We cannot all be like Paul but each of us has been given a solemn sacred trust to be true to Christ in a world of sin and temptation. Be faithful - to duty we have our own mission in life. Fulfil it. Are we taking care of that part of the vineyard assigned to us, producing fruit for Him who has committed it to our care? If we don’t fulfill our mission we will have no mission. We will become drop outs while others take up the baton and receive the honour and the reward. See that no man take thy crown but press on toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus and then you will hear that “ well done thou good and faithful servant enter thou into the joy of thy Lord.” We cannot hear well done unless we have done well.

YOUTH FELLOWSHIP REPORT

The end of our season is readily approaching as we close for summer. It has been a very busy year, with both highs and lows, but thanks to God’s mercy and goodness, we as a committee have survived and grown closer to Him.

The 4th March saw the return of the panel. Billy Portis, Lesley Kennedy and Auldwyn Calderwood bravely faced another round of questions that were on the minds of our young people. Great job guys!! (NB to panel members: the Pastor will be visiting each of your homes to consult you on your theology!!).

The following meeting saw the Ballycraigy Youth Group visit us. Each year when they visit, they always bless our hearts, and that’s just the number of them. The combined youth groups numbered around 80/90 young people. Praise God! And we look forward to meeting again with them next year DV.

Friday 30th March - Sunday 1st April was the proposed date for the youth weekend 2001 in Castlewellan Castle. It was however cancelled due to the impact of the foot and mouth crisis in the area. So another big SORRY to all the young people and an EVEN BIGGER SORRY to all their parents who were looking forward to a weekend off!

There was a break until 29th April due to Easter Sunday when the Youth group headed down to Monkstown Baptist to take their youth meeting. Monkstown, is of course the new home of our brother Alan Hoey and it was good to meet up with him once again. Thanks to Geoffrey Kennedy and Richard McCord who presented a (fantastic) bible study entitled “Go with the flow? - What does being a Christian mean to you?” Were we examined what we do, compared to what we should do in given situations. It was the first time we have shared fellowship with this particular youth group, but such was the fellowship that it certainly won’t be the last.

The 13th May saw the collapse to the advertised plans for that evening. Ian Cruickshank was expected to speak, however due to family illness, was unable to make it at the last moment. Please pray for Ian’s niece who is being treated for suspected meningitis. Thanks to Ballymena Elim, who invited us round to their own hall for a time of fellowship at the last moment.

The 27th May is the last date for the year. An informal meeting is planned, where a simple video and quiz will be on the agenda. The elections for the next year’s committee will be held on this night, so please pray that God’s hand will guide this vital part of the evening.

A final word of thanks to all who have supported us in so many ways over the last year, it has not gone unnoticed. Thanks to all those who pray so faithfully for the youth group on a daily basis, the committee has been so grateful for your prayers, they mean so much to us. Thanks also to those who sacrificed their time to make extra sandwiches and who provided lifts in ‘our time of need.’ Just because the youth meetings have stopped temporarily, please continue to pray for each one of the young people, many of whom have exams at this stage of the year, and many other problems. Pray also for the summer events that are forthcoming, for their safety, and that the youth work at Ballee can continue to grow.

We need your support. Thank you and God bless.

THE BIBLE

I wonder do you read this Bible

What does it mean to you?

Or do you rarely take a look

There so much else to do

The Bible days seem far away

The Saints and prophets dim

And God Himself to you is vague

You have no time for Him.

So there upon the shelf it lies

This message from above

And you go on from day to day

Without this Word of love.

You know I once was just the same

Until one day I heard

How Jesus from the glory came

To save a dying world

How on the cross His blood He shed

That I might be forgiven

And all my sin He bore away

To make me fit for Heaven.

I found the Word of God was true

And full of truth and grace

And as I read its stories through

I saw the Saviours face.

I saw the Lord could be to me,

A Saviour and a friend

From all my sin could set me free

And guide me to the end

And now He saves and satisfies

And all along the road

My every need each day supplies

And brings me near to God

And so dear friend I bear to you

This simple witness clear,

That if you trust the Saviour too,

You’ll find the Bible dear!

ONE YEAR ON

It is just over one year since Anna and I retired from TBF Ministries and you say what have you been doing? Having offered our services to Sandes Mission to our Majesties Forces for Holiday and sick relief, whom we had been with for 16 years, we felt this was what God would have us do in the meantime.

So January 2000 we set off for Harrogate, a training College for young men and woman which take in about 1000 recruits, we had many opportunities to get along side these 16 year olds who have never been away from home. We also met some who had been in Sandes in Holywood and they wondered what we were doing there, so that opened up away for us to talk about the Lord.

Harrogate Training College is being redeveloped and that means Sandes as well, the Committee were told they would need £175,000. So they prayed then that C.O. (Commanding Officer) was transferred, then his replacement said they would need £75,000 so they prayed again then last week Hazel Knox the General Secretary met with the Second in Command and he said: Sandes would be ready for opening in September and they would need no money as the army received help from the Welfare, what seems impossible with us is possible with God. Sandes has been through the mill with references to finances but with the Psalmist we can say Great is our God and greatly to be praised, “Our God Reigns.”

Then our next stop was Ballykelly for 2 weeks and again many new faces some we had seen in Holywood. There we met a young man Paul who was saved and very keen to know more of God’s word and wanting to know God in a real way. His wife is not saved but he is so zealous for God.

Then on to Holywood for 10 days, now this was special as it held many memories, great changes there but it is good to know God had not changed.

Cosford next stop now this was new ground in every way as it was with the RAF (the boys in blue) lovely young men and woman, one lad hearing our accent said; The big shopping centre(Hey) but through that we were able to build up a relationship as this is what Sandes is all about, building bridges, then we can present God’s word to them.

You could say, what about the in-between times? Over a period of 5 years in Rock House we met many people and we have visited many of them, some in hospital others in their homes. Then there are those of our assembly, which we have been visiting, the sick and the elderly. We trust that in all we do God will be uplifted and glorified.

Please continue to pray for us as we seek to serve Him as there is no retirement with God.

It has been said that God is the God of every tense past, present and future. He is the help of our past the hope of our future and the great “I Am” of to-day.

Let me burn out for Thee, dear Lord, Burn and wear out for Thee;

Don’t let me rust,or my life be,a failure, my God, to Thee.

Use me, and all I have, dear Lord and get me so close to Thee

That I feel the throb of the great heart of God, until I burn out for Thee.
